High-turn shopping lots lose hatch paint first. Medical offices lose the van plaque. Atlas recounts the stalls, resets aisle widths, and mounts signs that match the new paint so a van user is not sent to a stall that only looks accessible.
Sitting on the I-40/I-85 corridor, Burlington's outlet and retail centers see weekend surges that a Greensboro neighborhood church never sees. Medical offices along the same corridor need the higher outpatient percentages when that occupancy applies. HOA lots east of town fail more often on missing signs than on raw stall counts. The Burlington fire official sets fire-lane wording on top of ADA; we do not invent an ordinance number.
The table has not been replaced
2010 is the name of the current federal design standard, not an expired year. The Department of Justice still uses the 2010 ADA Standards when a lot is restriped. North Carolina's 2024 State Building Code Chapter 11 Table 1106.2 lists the same accessible-space counts. Later ADA rules about websites do not change stall counts or aisle widths. Use the ADA parking-space calculator for a planning number, then we confirm it on the ground.
- Standard accessible aisle: 60 inches.
- Van-accessible aisle: 96 inches (or an 11-foot stall with a 60-inch aisle).
- At least 1 in every 6 accessible spaces must be van-accessible.
- Signs match the paint and sit at least 60 inches above grade.
- The accessible route to the entrance is part of compliance — paint alone is not enough.
How Atlas works a Burlington lot
A 76–100 space retail field needs 4 accessible spaces, including a van-accessible stall. Each parking facility on a site is counted separately. We use the calculator on the walk, then confirm measurements on the ground.
Retail wants Sunday night or overnight. Medical offices prefer weekends. HOAs can phase. Part of the lot can stay open.
